Does anyone NOT have an iphone? These things are truly incredible. I'm not even using mine to its full potential but there are so many great things about it.
This post is to actually share and marvel in these awesome creations but I thought it would be appropriate to briefly play the devils advocate.
I has been brought to my attention the we clearly turn to these devices to often and unnecessarily. Sliding the digital bar to the side to fill in the gaps of time, the uncomfortable silence, or to flat out avoid human contact. I had a conversation with a friend about this and she shed her insight on the topic.
She pointed out that all the technology we have available to us should be making our lives easier and give us more time to do what is important or meaningful to us. Instead of using the time we receive from all the gadgets, we have filled that space with more stuff, in most cases, more work. Or we are using the time to zone out of the reality around us and into the touch sensitive worlds of these micro computers.
Many of us might benefit with setting some limits on how often we succumb to these mini machines. How many times do you unnecessarily check your facebook, or email? When you do check email how often do you click on links that pull you away from the task at hand? When you are waiting for a program to load do you try to open another while you wait (which actually will take longer)? Just food for thought. Perhaps when we are not using them for the purpose they were designed we can enjoy the silence and space they were meant to create.
Now, that is out of the way we can get to the fun stuff! What apps do you love and use the most? See, this way we can make the most of our time by only using the most efficient programs available (right?) Here is a list of the apps I use the most. Bear in mind I am cheap so I mostly stick with the free apps. Remember this site is all about sharing so please comment on your favorites so we can all be super sufficient iphone junkies together.
Music: I think everyone knows of Pandora and Shazam…if you don’t you better get these free apps now. I also have iRelax but have not used it much. It seems nice in theory, turn on and off various sounds of instruments and nature to customize your own “serenity now”.
Yoga: YogaDeck (70 poses with there Sanskrit pronunciation, cueing and benefits), Gita (Ancient text of the Bhagavad Gita).
Info: Wikipanion (self explanatory), Yoink (like freecycle for iphone users, doesn't seem to have a lot of momentum yet but keeping my eye on it), Nutrition Menu (a great app to give you nutrition info for all foods and chain restaurants with an exercise and calorie calculator to help you keep on track), Google Earth (cool).
Stupid Games I love: Scoops, Flood It
Kids: I don’t know what I am more embarrassed about, that my 18 month old knows how to scroll through pictures or that I have more apps for her than me. Here are the ones she seems to love the most. Barnyard Animals, iZoo, ABC Phonics, and Bus (as in wheels on the).
So which do you use the most? Post your favorites in the comment bar below. Happy "tapping", in moderation of course ;-)
Peace and Love,
Cassie

Funny you should mention that. I loved my iphone and it got stolen and I was in mourning, however, it made me realize that I was addicted to it! But boy was it fun.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I support the apps my hubby makes but they will cost you. If you're into gaming, RC Heli is awesome. I'm not even into playing games, but I enjoy it once in a while.
Also, I love BabySigns. I have fun teaching my DD different signs as we navigate the waters of language development.
I'm exciting to try out those yoga ones.
Can't find a good shopping list one. Anyone?
Thanks!
